Dance, Sweat & Swim!

Thursday 27th June

Session 1: 5.30-7.30pm

Come and join us for Dance, Sweat & Swim, the first collaboration between Rave OM ecstatic dance events & Rising Embers sauna. With our feet on the grass at Newlyn Green, we’ll begin with a 15-min guided movement session led by dance artist Katie Lusby to help us arrive into our bodies as we stretch, twist, open and ground. The music will then be your guide, played live by Rave OM’s very own DJ Bobby Lost and Djane and listened to through headphones, silent disco style. We’ll take you on a rich musical journey for you to dance your heart out, moving and grooving in whatever way you choose. And if that doesn’t get you sweaty enough, head to the sauna to turn up the heat and feel your body loosen, melt, and expand even more. And when you need to cool-off and feel refreshed & revitalized, the sea is ready to welcome you. Throughout the session we will free-flow between the grassy dance floor, the sea and the sauna (collectively negotiating the capacity), before eventually coming back together for the last 15-mins for some deep relaxation with binaural beats.

What is ecstatic dance?

Ecstatic dance is a non-religious free-form dance inviting people to connect to themselves and to others through music and movement. It takes place over a live DJ set and starts and finishes with a short opening and closing circle led by a facilitator. There are a few simple guidelines:

1) No talking on the dancefloor (and in this case, in the sauna too!). Ecstatic dance is not a social gathering; it’s a chance to really drop into our bodies and let them do the talking. If you do need to use words to communicate something, please do so in a way that doesn’t distract the other dancers.

2) Be your authentic self - don't show up in having drunk alcohol or used any non-prescribed substances, even naturally occurring hippy validated ones such as weed.

3) No phones - keep them on silent and in your bag! We want people to feel free to move and express themselves without worrying how it might look, so please, no photos or videos.

4) Enjoy your journey - may it be medicinal! Emotions may arise and they are all welcome. Move through and dance with them, and if you need support just ask one of the Rave OM team who will be happy to help you. Be respectful of each other’s journeys too - accept them without judgement.
